Pitchess Detention Center (Wayside) General Information

The four facilities at Pitchess Detention Center include North, South, East, and the North County Correctional Facility. When opened in 1938, PDC was known as Wayside Honor Rancho. These facilities comprise Los Angeles County's largest jail complex.


North County Correctional Facility (NCCF)

NCCF is a maximum security complex comprised of five jails within one facility. It is designed to operate as five separate units, housing 3800 inmates and provide for disciplinary segregation and clinic level medical treatment of inmates.

Pitchess Detention Center - East

The East Facility was opened in 1951 as a disciplinary unit. The East Facility is currently the oldest operating jail facility in Los Angeles County.

Pitchess Detention Center - North

The North Facility is a maximum security complex capable of housing 1,500 inmates. The facility's current population is pre-sentenced and sentenced male inmates with security levels ranging from low to high.

Pitchess Detention Center - South

The South Facility houses approximately 1400 low to medium security inmates and operates many different types of specialized schooling programs available to qualified inmates in conjunction with the Hacienda La Puente School district.


Jail Marriages

Before a jail marriage can be performed at Pitchess Detention Center the marriage packet but be signed and notarized by the inmate
. Once the marriage license is purchased a written request along with a copy of the marriage license must be faxed to the unit commander so that a background check can be performed. Based on the results of a background check the unit commander will either approve or deny the request.

Once the request is approved the unit commander will contact the
fiancée letting her know when the marriage can be performed. The marriage is performed on a visiting day over the phone, there are no special provisions made for jail weddings.

Notarizations are performed Monday - Friday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
